geocaching

Our family has recently begun geocaching!

We use our iPhones to get the coordinates, a map and clues to help us drive around and find the hidden "treasures" right here in our town- some just minutes from our house. When you find the treasures, you take something from the container and then you leave something- do you like what we left? Some are big treasures and some are small trinkets or toys, but the fun is in the hunt- and our kids LOVE it!

They all are over the world, so everyone can play.

Have you ever been geocaching?

It's been quite a while, but I thought it was a ton of fun! As soon as my kids are a little older I'm sure we'll be going again! :)

We did some geocaching years ago, but got away from it. I'm wanting to get outside more this summer though, so we need to find our gps and lace up the hiking boots again. :) Thanks for sharing - great pics!

We have been doing this for a few years now! We're "fair weather" geocachers though, so we haven't done any recently. We'll pick it up again over the summer though and "Team Misfits" will be back at it!

My husband just explained what this was to me this morning. I'd never heard of it before. Now you just posted about it too! I guess we'll have to see what it's all about.

We started about 5 years ago when we lived in Arizona. We are fair weather as well. I've been thinking about doing a few though before the weather got too hot. It's a great family activity though. Have fun!

Oh my gosh! I just found out about this and am planning to start next week with my sister and her family!! I'm really excited! I also saw the iphone app and haven't purchased it yet because I wasn't sure if it was worth it! It's good to hear some feedback about it though!

My friend does it all the time and I've always thought about it, but never done it. If I lived close enough to you, I'd definitely go and try and find yours :)

We love Geocaching! Haven't done it in a while due to pregnancy and newborn-ness. I can't wait for DD to get old enough to go with us again!

My whole extended family on my husbands side have geocached for years. My in-laws have gone all over the world. It's a great grandparent/grandkid activity as well. It can be a fun way to spend time together and enjoy the great outdoors at the same time.

LOVE geocaching... we did all over Europe while we were stationed there, and now have fun finding all the caches in Korea! There are a TON! What a "treasure" that you put in that cache...lucky for the next finder!

There's one very close to the church camp where we live during the summer. A friend of ours put it there. She works for our State Parks system and loves geocaching.

Yes, we do! We have so much fun as a family and the boys have learned so much through this wonderful activity. Spending family is the best part of it for mom.

we are so addicted to GC'ing! I went to Sun Meadows #2 hoping to score something from Vintage Pearl, but no luck....maybe down the road I'll cross your path. :)

Have you been to the one near 91/Mem - you would like the container!!

Yes we geocache! Love it too! We started last August and have over 500 finds, and we hid 40 ourselves. My husband is addicted, but it's OK because it gets him away from his computer and out the door. Happy Trails!

We love it! Especially if hiking is involved ;) I've yet to come across anything as cool as what you've left behind... but my kids can't seem to get enough of the little cheap/plastic "treasure" they find; it really is all about the hunt, though. So fun! *B

Lots of family fun! We're thinking of placing a few caches here in our area. It's amazing how many are right in our neighborhood. Can't wait to find some when we go road-tripping this summer.

My family goes letterboxing, but I've heard of geocaching and it sounds like fun! Don't you wish you could be a fly on the wall when the next finder opens up that particular cache!?! What a great surprise!

Never even heard of it?? Is it only on the iphone I'm wondering?? Will have to look into it??
Sounds soo fun!!

That is so cool! I wonder if there is one going on in my area.

How do you find out?

TLF said...

Yes, I've been. One word: Addicting!
My inlaws go all.the.time!
My MIL actually makes a scrapbook to keep track of each cach that they find. She even prints the nap to where it was to stick on the page w/ the pictures. They've been doing it for YEARS and often find the same names on the logs in neighboring states. They travel often & always plan out their cach spots before leaving town. :)
