why you wear your seatbelt...

this is my parents car after a car wreck last night.

they lost control avoiding stopped cars on a highway (due to another accident up ahead), came over a hill not knowing the cars on the other side were stopped, swerved to the right and fish-tailed, went up a hill and then rolled down it 3-4 times back onto the highway.

people in the stopped cars ran over, pried the doors off and immediately began talking to and helping my parents.

they both had their seatbelts on.

mom walked away with bruises and scratches.

dad walked away with a shattered wrist (had surgery late last night to fix it), a broken collar bone and broken ribs.

which sounds awful.

but looking at these pictures- it could have been much worse.

wear. your. seatbelt. always!

***HUGE kuddos to the makers of the hyundai sonata for keeping my parents as safe as it did.***

Oh my! How horrible! Amazing they walked away with as few of injuries as they did. How scary! It must have been very hard to see that car.

Lots of prayers that they heal quickly. What a testimony to seat belts and their ability to save lives.

Oh my goodness!! Yikes. So glad to hear their injuries were minor (well, at least minor in the terms that, like you said, it really could have been much worse). Yes. ALWAYS wear your seatbelt! I'm really big on that. Out of habit, I even keep my seatbelt on when I'm parked in a parking lot! *lol* I think I don't even feel that it's on!

P.S. I love the new lay-out of your blog, Erin! What font are you using (for the body of your posts)? How did you change it? The font I'm currently using on my blog is pretty, but I think it's a bit too hard to read.

Oh my goodness!! I have been away from my computer for a couple of weeks and just started reading what I've missed!! I'm so glad they are okay!!! You are so right about the seatbelts!! My 17 year old cousin Sam was killed in a car accident in 2006 due to not wearing his seatbelt. He just overcorrected after dozing off for a second and the sheriff's dept said that by looking at the minimal damage to the car if Sam had been wearing his seatbelt, he would have walked away! Praying your parents make a full and speedy recovery from their injuries and God bless! :D

oh my gosh!!! How scary. I am glad...despite the injuries that they are OK. I was in a car accident when I was 16...I wasn't wearing my seatbelt and I ended up in a coma for a week and shattered my left elbow....my left lung collapsed etc etc etc. I am a huge advocate for wearing seatbelts now. At 16, I thought I was invincible! :(

oh my goodness! i just came onto your blog for the first time from fab k and i saw this post and then looked at the date. i was in an accident the same day, friday, june 5th right by Weatherford high school on I-20 traveling east, traffic was slowing and a minivan slammed the back of my dad's suburban i was driving with 2 babies in carseats in the back and then the van hit us again on the front passenger side, missing my sweet Caroline (15 months) twice. my dad's burb was totaled. the police said there were 5 accidents at the same time on 20. where was your parents accident? so glad they are okay. i am so thankful that my kids are perfectly fine (one tongue bit) and i just had strains, scratches and bruises. so scary. thanks be to GOD!

OMG- thank god they are okay!! I almost died in a car accident( facial bones all crushed, jaw broken, tongue severed, teeth lost, lung collapsed, ribs broke, hip dislocated, near fatal loss of blood...)when i was 16 that the doctors said I could have walked away from with scrathces and bruising.if I had just been wearing my seltbelt! What a very important message to pass along- and thank god (again) that your parents had already heeded it!!!!!

Just found your blog---love it. I was in a really bad 4-car accident in May---lady ran a red light and slammed into my car which started a chain reaction. My Hyundai Santa Fe, was totaled, but I only had bruises!!! I bought another one a week later!
